SS/17 really is bursting at the seams with bright, bright colour. The fresh zesty, pantone – greenery-15-0343 is colour of the year, you’ll also see cheery hues of magenta pink, satsuma orange and canary yellow making quite an impact.
The revival of Eighties fashion regularly comes and goes in and out of fashion. Recent political events share a parallel with what happened during that decade and so it’s come round in major full swing.
The runways were a cocktail of exciting colour, patterns, power styling, slogans and more, fashion is making a bold statement.
Up Your Sleeves
Off the shoulders, slit sleeves, peek-a-boo sleeves and any other unusual sleeve renditions give interest to garments.Shirting and blouses are deconstructed and reimagined thus presenting a smart and sharper look in a more fun and exciting way.
We are wowing over our Lollys Laundry ‘Paris Blouse’, an off the shoulder stripe top with a full frill sleeve and the ever-so-popular tassel drawstring on the neckline – nicely on trend and not too twee. See image.
Peek-a-boo sweater from Great Plains available in black or white. Proving to be very popular already!
NU ‘s black shirt dress/tunic shirt has knitted cold shoulder insert within the top of the sleeves. Original, edgy and sleek in true NU styling.
A matrix of pattern exploded on the runway in the form of stripes, florals, geometrics, graphic -ey style prints in all mediums of textiles.
We see a throwback from bold retro flower prints to pretty little ditsies and generally all things flowery have taken seed thanks to Chloe, Michael Kors and Miu Miu to name a few. Our Italian range Anonyme boasts of some very dynamic floral printed garments. A Postcard from Brighton include this beautiful full bloom tulip print within their collection.
Jumpsuits are still one of the key silhouettes and continue to trend into 2017. Here we have the Mama B Bizet with a loose fit expertly cut in Italian milled jersey to give that winning drape. We also have their more tailored jumpsuit by comparison Minu, a wider legged version with a pinafore look top both are free of any awkward fastenings.
Native American meets Prairie girl, wispy chiffon, modern ruffles, frills on skirts toughened up with Summer cowboy influenced boots. Lollys Laundry’s Deva blouse in powder is a delicate and softly textured blouse with a subtle touch of gold for that extra luxe. Go casual with this blouse and marry with jeans or keep to an ethereal vibe and put with a floaty skirt.
A good many designers have added pleats to their collection. We are in love with the Great Plains navy wide legged trousers, the peplum dress both of which are extremely flattering on a fuller figure or on a more athletic figure. Not forgetting the blush pink, pleated skirt with what looks like a gentle dusting of gold.
So there it is, a brief write-up on some current trends and how they fit into the ranges in our store at the moment. Another key thing to remember is we do buy collections that do offer originality and whilst they will nod to the trends and follow conceptual trends they will not date ever so quickly either. Alot of our customers tell us they don’t want to be a slave to fashion but they do want to be trend aware and enjoy wearing beautiful clothes.
It’s that time of year where we are accepting new deliveries every day so expect to see more of what I’ve described and more again for SS/17 in store and here online.
